An achiral nonlinear optical chromophore with a "remote functionality" that can act as a ligand is developed on the basis of 4-nitroaniline derivatized with pyridine. The molecules are assembled through complexation with simple achiral zinc(II) salts and the H-bond network mediated by the counterions, to generate noncentrosymmetric materials exhibiting optical second harmonic generation (SHG). The crystal structures of the new complexes are determined; the counterion strongly influences the ligand orientations and lattice structure. SHG of the microcrystalline materials is investigated. Correlation between the structure and SHG is rationalized using semiempirical quantum chemical estimation of the hyperpolarizabilities of molecules and molecular clusters. The metal complexation plays a significant role in molecular assembly but affects the SHG very little, enabling simplified analysis of the bulk property in terms of molecular responses. Organization of remote functionalized molecules by metal ion complexation thus offers a convenient approach to the rational design of quadratic NLO materials. 相似文献

The fabrication of a mesoporous silica nanoparticle (MSN)?protamine hybrid system (MSN?PRM) is reported that selectively releases drugs in the presence of specific enzyme triggers present in the proximity of cancer cells. The enzyme trigger involved is a protease called trypsin, which is overexpressed in certain specific pathological conditions, such as inflammation and cancer. Overexpression of trypsin is known to be associated with invasion, metastasis, and growth in several cancers, such as leukemia, colon cancer, and colorectal cancer. The current system (MSN–PRM) consists of an MSN support in which mesopores are capped with an FDA‐approved peptide drug protamine, which effectively blocks the outward diffusion of the drug molecules from the mesopores of the MSNs. On exposure to the enzyme trigger, the protamine cap disintegrates, opening up the molecular gates and releasing the entrapped drug molecules. The system exhibits minimal premature release in the absence of the trigger and selectively releases the encapsulated drugs in the presence of the proteases secreted by colorectal cancer cells. The ability of the MSN–PRM particles to deliver anticancer drugs to colorectal cancer cells has also been demonstrated. The hydrophobic drug is released into cancer cells subsequent to disintegration of the protamine cap, resulting in cell death. Drug‐induced cell death in colorectal cancer cells is significantly enhanced when the hydrophobic drug that is known to degrade in aqueous environments is encapsulated in the MSN–PRM system in comparison to the free drug (P < 0.05). The system, which shows good biocompatibility and selective drug release, is a promising platform for cancer specific drug delivery. 相似文献

In this paper we study the nonlinear optical properties of PicoGreen dye. The investigations involve the single-beam Z-scan technique and measurements were carried out at different incident intensities. Both open and closed aperture Z-scan techniques were performed at 532 nm and it was found that the dye exhibited a reverse saturable absorption with significant nonlinear absorption coefficient and intensity-dependent negative nonlinear refraction coefficient, indicating self-defocusing phenomena. Nano structured noble metals have very important applications in diverse fields as photovoltaics, catalysis, electronic and magnetic devices, etc. Here, we report the application of dual beam thermal lens technique for the determination of the effect of silver sol on the absolute fluorescence quantum yield (FQY) of the laser dye rhodamine 6G. A 532 nm radiation from a diode pumped solid state laser was used as the excitation source. It has been observed that the presence of silver sol decreases the fluorescence quantum efficiency. This is expected to have a very important consequence in enhancing Raman scattering which is an important spectrochemical tool that provides information on molecular structures. We have also observed that the presence of silver sol can enhance the thermal lens signal which makes the detection of the signal easier at any concentration. 相似文献

Density functional theory has been used to investigate geometries, heats of formation (HOFs), C-NO2 bond dissociation energies (BDEs), and relative energetic properties of nitro derivatives of azole substituted furan. HOFs for a series of molecules were calculated by using density functional theory (DFT) and Møller–Plesset (MP2) methods. The density is predicted using crystal packing calculations; all the designed compounds show density above 1.71 g/cm3. The calculated detonation velocities and detonation pressures indicate that the nitro group is very helpful for enhancing the detonation performance for the designed compounds. Thermal stabilities have been evaluated from the bond dissociation energies. Charge on the nitro group was used to assess the impact sensitivity in this study. According to the results of the calculations, tri- and tetra-nitro substituted derivatives reveal high performance with better thermal stability. 相似文献

In this paper, we describe the use of an open cell photoacoustic configuration for the evaluation of the thermal effusivity
of liquid crystals. The feasibility, precision and reliability of the method are initially established by measuring the thermal
effusivities of water and glycerol, for which the effusivity values are known accurately. In order to demonstrate the use
of the present method in the thermal characterization of liquid crystals, we have measured the thermal effusivity values in
various mesophases of 4-cyano-4′-octyloxybiphenyl (8OCB) and 4-cyano-4′-heptyloxybiphenyl (7OCB) liquid crystals using a variable temperature open photoacoustic cell. A comparison of the measured
values for the two liquid crystals shows that the thermal effusivities of 7OCB in the nematic and isotropic phases are slightly
less than those of 8OCB in the corresponding phases.

Novel polyurethane gels have been reported in common solvent like dimethyl formamide (DMF). Polyurethanes have been synthesized from diisocyanates, diols and rigid chain extenders. We have illustrated the influence of chemical structure of the chain extenders on gelation rate, thermal property and morphology of the gels in DMF. Gelation rate increases significantly with the rigidity of the chain extender. Introduction of more rigid chain extender molecules in polyurethane prepolymer enhanced the thermal stability of the pure polymer. On the contrary, the solvent retention power of the gels gradually decreases with increasing rigidity of chain extender presumably because of the poor dispersion/greater aggregation of the hard segments in the soft segment matrix.
